They have city maps of Jo\u00e3o Pessoa, detailed info on Paraiba and they even speak English\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank the Governor of Paraiba and the PBTUR for making the following information and materials available to us.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbtur.com.br\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.pbtur.com.br<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Forte Velho:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo10-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-87\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo10-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo10-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo10-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo10-2-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Located in an arm of the river behind Restinga Island. Can be reached by bus-ferry from\u00a0Cabedelo\u2019s fishing port, by dinghy or by monohull with retractable keel \/ multihull with a draft less than 3 \u00bd ft. You can also anchor there, by following the channel close inshore along the West side of the island (but beware of the numerous sandbanks, therefore it is safer \u00a0to go with the incoming tide) or even better, to motor around the island via Cabedelo.<\/p>\n<p>It is a nice sail along the mangrove lined shores; Forte Velho is a small village opposite\u00a0the West shore of Restinga Island with lots of little bar\/restaurants and a pontoon opposite which it is possible to anchor.<\/p>\n<p>From there, you can continue by car to the church of the ancient monastery of \u201cNossa Senhora da Guia\u201d, which has a rich history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lucena:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Good for a pleasant day trip going from Jacar\u00e9 to Lucena, opposite Cabedelo.You can take the train, then cross the river by ferry, or take the pittoresque bus-boat to Costinha landing. Over there, the ancient whale-hunting station has been transformed into a museum, and the former slipway for the whales is now a swimming pool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo5-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-94\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo5-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo5-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo5-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo5-2-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The capital of the Paraiba state itself has various points of interest with its historical centre close to the railway station, its cathedral and other neo-baroque and colonial churches and buildings. There are several small &#8220;pousadas&#8221; or hotels in the neighbourhood and a small bar-restaurant with 6 bungalows in the nudist zone. There is security around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo3-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-96\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo3-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo3-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo3-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo3-2-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Inland:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo16-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-88\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo16-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo16-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo16-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo16-2-300x209.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo16-2-330x230.jpg 330w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Areia:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo14-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-89\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo14-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo14-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo14-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo14-2-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the 2 \u00bd hour bus trip to the small town of Areia at <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">,<\/span> 2000 ft altitude, you will get a good impression of the inland topography of the countryside while going through very dry areas littered with cactus plants, followed by green valleys, sugar cane plantations \u2026.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from its Agricultural Faculty, Areia is surrounded by cacha\u00e7a distilleries (cacha\u00e7a = local rum) and has 2 museums : one shows the sugar cane history; the second is a colonial building showing the 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century lifestyle on a farm.<\/p>\n<p>There are several local &#8220;pousadas&#8221; and a hotel, but they are the not very well organised. It is therefore better to make arrangements with a taxi for a guided day excursion.<\/p>\n<p>Note: Inland can be extremely hot during the day and at night cooler than the coastal regions. So make sure to bring the right clothing\u00a0with you, especially if staying somewhere overnight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo13-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-90\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo13-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo13-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo13-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo13-2-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Campina Grande:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This is the second largest city in Paraiba located at 1700 ft altitude and 80 miles (129 km) from the coast.<\/p>\n<p>During the month of June, Campina Grande becomes the capital of the \u201cForro\u201d, the traditional dance and music of the north-east, with its famous \u201cS\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o\u201d (St John) festival, the biggest \u201cS\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o\u201d in the world. During the entire month of June, there is nothing but Forro dancing and music, quadrille street dancing, traditional dishes and corn-based pastries and fire-works during St John\u2019s night (June 23<sup>rd<\/sup>).<\/p>\n<p>The St John festivities in the small country towns represen<span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">t<\/span> the real tradition of the NE Brazilian inland which turns into a rural carnival. Noteworthy is the particular atmosphere in the streets of Banareiras (140 km from Jo\u00e3o Pessoa), Santa Luzia (260 km), Patos (300 km) and Cabaceiras, which on top has the \u201cBode Rei\u201d festival ( the Royal Billy Goat), which adds a particular touch, artistically and culinary, to the Sert\u00e3o region.<\/p>\n<p><b>Archaeological sites:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The inland reveals plenty of sites with cave etchings, pre-Colombian Indian vestiges, giant rock formations and waterfalls, which are equally interesting as sights as well as, destinations for walks at different degrees of difficulty, and even offer the\u00a0possibility of rock-climbing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo15-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-100\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo15-2.jpg\" alt=\"turismo15-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo15-2.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.marina-jacare-village.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/turismo15-2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The park of Pedra da Boca,\u00a0<\/strong>on the slopes of the Rio Calabou\u00e7o river, borders the states of Paraiba and Rio Grande do Norte.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inga<\/strong> is the site with the most important archaeological Brazilian monument (90 km from Jo\u00e3o Pessoa) :\u00a0Itacoatiara, a granite block of 20m length and 3m height, covered with geometric etchings, which have baffled scientists all over the world as, so far, nobody has been able to understand the meanings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pirpirituba,<\/strong> the most beautiful waterfalls in Paraiba, in particular the \u201cCachoeira do Roncador\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sousa,\u00a0<\/strong>in the middle of the arid Sert\u00e3o region at 450 km from Jo\u00e3o Pessoa. This town is known for its \u201cDinosaur Valley\u201d, considered one of the largest paleonthological sites in the world.
